About Us
Hi! My name is Jocelyn Siegel and I started this homestead to provide healthy food for my children, as well as to give them a sense of what real life is like. Homesteading is full of happiness and sadness, and it's not something that can be experienced on TV. I am very glad to have this opportunity to teach them about life, as well as to learn new things myself. It truly has been a wonderful experience so far.
Was I always a homesteader? No! I come from suburban Long Island and was a suburbanite for many years after my childhood. I never raised more than a cat or dog, except the occasional rabbit. However, I have always had a love of farming and working the land and this is what I always wanted to do. Because of that, I educated myself in any way I could to learn what I needed to know to run this place - and I'm still learning! Usually I am to be found around the place working with the animals, planting and
tending the gardens, or begrudgingly building something else that needs to be built (It's not my favorite activity). When I'm not doing that, I can be found cooking, cleaning, making soap and candles, baking, or spending time with my two children.
My help? My husband, who is a full-time computer genius in NYC, but helps me when he can. My two children are also great helps to me as well. Together we are turning this once beautiful but unused piece of land into a functioning and productive homestead.
Curious about the day to day? I keep a blog right here. You can find what goes on here pretty regularly, as well as meet all of us along the way.
